For over 20 years I had annual one-person exhibits at The Faculty Club on the UC Berkeley campus in Berkeley CA.
Except the first exhibit in 2003 I never had to submit my photos for approval. On the day of hanging the exhibits I showed up with four hard-case, wheeled suitcases of framed photos under glass, having traveled with them from home via public transportation. The manager had little idea what I was going to exhibit, only a broad title and one of the photos I’d sent him that I planned to exhibit. The only one he questioned was, “Industrial rust???” It was what I was working on at the time and he’d given me two weeks to put it together so industrial rust it was.
The exhibit space was a solid redwood wall in The Faculty Club, a historic Maybeck building on the UC Berkeley campus. I was honored to exhibit there, it was a beautiful setting for my photos.
The annual exhibits were the single most important factor in my development as a photographer. Felix Solomon, the manager of The Faculty Club, invited me back to exhibit year after year. Felix, thank you. You will never know how much you influenced my life. –Sally Mack, June 13, 2026
