Although I consider my photos mostly “straight shots” they are often considered abstract. Removing context and changing perception of size adds to the perception of abstract. For nature shots, I try to make the scene look as much as how I saw it as I can (the camera does lie) but with abstracts I often take more liberties. The “Shear Studs” shot, for instance, has more detail in the lower right than I chose to show, so entranced was I with the light falling on the edges of the I-beams on which the studs were welded. The light shined through the blue plastic covering the studs showing their forms.
So, this exhibit showed almost abstracts or abstracts almost, take your pick.
